In your understanding, what is a digital citizen? Give at least three characteristics.

A digital citizen is described as someone who interacts with the internet and technology in responsible and effective ways. Different skills and behaviors characterize being a positive participant in the world of technology. Here are three main characteristics of the digital citizen:

1. Responsible User of Technology: The importance of ethical and safe usage of technology is well known to digital citizens. They understand online etiquette, respect privacy, and do not involve themselves in destructive behavior like cyberbullying or disinformation. A responsible and healthy approach to technology will make online activities contribute to a positive community.

2. Digitally Literate: A digital citizen is a skilled user of digital applications or media. This also includes the critical assessment of information sources, credible content, and use of multiple digital tools for communication and collaboration. Digital literacy helps individuals engage meaningfully with online resources and participate in discussions that are of relevance to them.

3. Active Participator: Digital citizens are no longer passive consumers of information but rather active participants within online communities and civic activity. This can be through championing social causes, responding to posts, or participating in projects that contribute positively to the community. They are involved because they believe such participation will lead to creating positive change and building healthy community.

These characteristics altogether define the role of a digital citizen in fostering a safe, respectful, and engaged online environment.
