Uses of Social Media

Social media is a multifaceted tool that enables various activities for different people and is considered crucial due to its wide range of advantages. Hence, because of its oozing advantages, even elders or people who were born way earlier than our generation are hooked to try and engage in the social media world. Here are some of the few ways I use social media for:

1. Communication

Social media is primarily used for communication. As we all know, social media apps like Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram allow us to communicate with our loved ones. These tools are essential in maintaining and improving relationships, as they serve as a bridge between us. They make communicating easier compared to the traditional way of writing and waiting for days or months.

Through social media, the great distance between you and a friend or family is somehow diminished. Thus, this is why social media are a great help in whatever circumstance, especially in times of crisis or difficulty.

2. Acquisition of Information

In this fast-changing world, being informed is a responsibility, and it is essential in leading a life that is righteous and fulfilling. As wise individuals, we must protect and guard our minds from misleading information and ideas. Thus, to do that, we have social media to lend us a hand in acquiring information that is factual and valid.

In acquiring information, we must always be on guard against false information rather than be swayed easily by hearsay. A few of the social media platforms I use to acquire valid information are Facebook and YouTube. We could use both of them properly by only watching or reading from credible sources of data within these platforms.

3. Entertainment and Relaxation

After a day of stress, difficulty, and tiredness, there would always be a pursuit for entertainment and relaxation, and most of the time, we get them through social media—the closest form of entertainment and relaxation we have. We enjoy watching movies, short clips of videos, reading memes, and watching other contents that bring joy into our day.

Social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube provide us with a wide selection that we can choose from depending on what we like and what we think we would enjoy. This is very helpful, as getting entertained and relaxed is all we want after a day of hardwork.

4. Learning and Development

When we dedicate ourselves to growing, we put ourselves outside the comfort zone where default habits are not tolerated. In growing, we are in the growth zone; thus, programmed habits that do not serve us in any way are put aside as we start to begin learning new things. Speaking of learning, we have tools that provide us with the hand we need in order to develop, and these tools are social media.

As we go and learn, we always identify ourselves as users of social media because, simply, it is our source of learning and information. Some of the social media platforms I personally used to sharpen the saw are YouTube and Twitter. YouTube for documentaries, tutorials, and lectures. Meanwhile, Twitter for other educational content, such as notes and reviewers.
